Alongside the "I wouldn't buy that for a dollar" debacle is another cringe-inducing moment that made us pine for the sly touch of the original movie. RoboCop goes to apprehend a suspect, when his visor read-out displays that one perp is "Non-Threatening: Totally Stoned." The moment is presumably supposed to be funny, but it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense: why would a read-out, only to be read by Murphy's systems, be so flippant towards drug use and make a funny out of it? Considering the RoboCop program is this super-serious operation costing billions of dollars, it just seems pretty silly. Though the film's few satirical elements do just about work even if they totally lack subtlety, attempts at humour like this, few and far between though they are, just come off as goofy and at odds with the rest of the film, which is pretty earnest and straight-faced.
