10 Awful Movie Retcons That Pissed Off Everybody

9. John Connor Is A Terminator - Terminator Genisys

Where to start...

After two disappointing follow-ons to the immensely popular films from James Cameron, the studio decided the best call to make was to retcon the only hits in the series right out of existence.

Kyle Reese, now portrayed by 5th movie stinker veteran Jai Courtenay (see Die Hard 5, or then again, don’t), arrives in the 80s where Sarah Connor’s fully prepped, having being raised by The Terminator. From there we get more liquid terminator shenanigans, additional time travel to the future and the reveal that one of the worst Doctor Who’s to ever Doctor a Who has turned John Connor himself into a Terminator. If JC’s a Terminator, what is the point of saving him in the long run? Talk about shooting your franchise in the foot.

None of it makes sense and worse still, none of it’s all that entertaining. A convoluted mess, Terminator: Genisys (beware a film that can’t even spell its own title) added nothing to the franchise, if anything taking a whole lot away instead. When Arnie finally agreed to return to the series that made him a star 30+ years ago, it was a film that pretends this one simply never existed. Perhaps we should all do the same.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
