Anchorman is such a masterclass in improvised comedy, people still quote it nearly two decades later. Regarded as one of the most beloved comedies of the millennium, fans were begging for a sequel for years. And when Anchorman 2 was finally green-lit, we all expected a mega hit.

However, comedy classics tend to be 'lightning in a bottle', which is why many sequels fail to recapture what made their predecessor special. Sadly, Anchorman 2 suffers this fate. It's not terrible and some of the cameos are funny, but it definitely doesn't leave the same impact as the original.

The sequel also commits the sin of trying to replicate the best gags of the first film. Since the cameo-filled battle was a highlight in Anchorman, Anchorman 2 does it again but amps up the cameos to maximum. Even though the scene is filled with over a dozen talented actors riffing on one another, it's a little desperate that the film isn't trying to disguise the fact it's reusing its own jokes.
