10 Awful Movies With Incredible Casts

6. Alexander

Dr Dolittle
Warner Bros.

Cast: Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Jared Leto, Val Kilmer, Brian Blessed

When Colin Farrell was cast as the titular character in Oliver Stone's Alexander, it must've felt like a dream come true. With the scale of the production, the incredible sets, and the marvellous cast, it's no surprise the young Irish actor believed this tale of Alexander the Great was going to be the next Braveheart.

But it was anything but. With Farrell's bad wig and thick Irish accent, it makes one think they're watching at an amateur play rather than a multi-million dollar blockbuster. If that was the film's only problem, Alexander would still be regarded as disappointing.

However, what makes this supposed epic a complete disaster is how surprisingly dull it is. Considering half of the run-time consists of sprawling, bloody battles, that's quite an achievement.

Anthony Hopkins and Christopher Plummer are perfectly cast as Ptolemy and Aristotle, respectively, but the rest of the ensemble are so lifeless, it's impossible to get invested. The film's greatest achievement is how it made history's most legendary conqueror into the most boring character possible.
