Nominative determinism is a psychological theory that people are drawn to professions based on their name.

For example, a person might find a life of cake-making if their last name was Baker, or someone with the first name Bobby might be drawn to become a police officer.

So, what about the character called John Shooter from the 2004 psychological thriller Secret Window. We'll give you three guesses...

Based on a Stephen King short story, the movie stars Johnny Depp as Mort, a disturbed writer who locks himself away in a woodland cabin. There, he is confronted by Shooter (John Turturro), who believes Mort has plagiarised one of his stories.

Over the course of the film, it is revealed that Shooter is actually one of Mort's alternate personalities. The writer suffered a breakdown after finding out his wife was having an affair, his alter ego born out of a desire to "Shoot Her".

Do you get it? It's important that you get it.

It's a lame reveal on so many levels. Not only is the "bad guy is actually the good guy" trait really tired, but Shooter? That's the best they could come up with?

Who wrote this script? Colin Badatwriting?
