10 Bad Movies That Wasted Great CGI
7. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
Based on the popular French graphic novel series from the late-1960s by PIerre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières Valérian And Laureline, Vaerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets saw Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevigne step into the leading roles respectively in what was supposed to be an unmissable movie event of 2017.
Directed by French filmmaker and self-confessed fan of the comic series Luc Besson (The Fifth Element), this intergalactic commercial failure follows our heroes in an eye-catching and imaginative futuristic setting where they're tasked with saving a space-station housing countless alien races from thousands of planets.
Reportedly crowd-sourcing the project's $180 million budget, consequently making it the most expensive French production ever made. Besson's vision of his beloved series was rendered in impeccable detail, taking audiences into a rich and vibrant world full of fascinating creatures and gadgets.
While its visuals were a notable achievement in themselves, Valerian nevertheless failed to impress critics and audiences due to a messy narrative and a lack of chemistry between its leads, with DeHaan giving an awkward Keanu Reeves impression throughout. There was also Rihanna's uncomfortable dance sequence, but the less said about that the better.
