10 Bad Movies That Wasted Great CGI
6. Transformers: The Last Knight
From his humble beginnings working on music videos for Meat Loaf and Tina Turner to breaking his teeth in Hollywood with Bad Boys and Armageddon, it wasn't long before Michael Bay established himself as one of the big names in effects movies. Even with the likes of recent explosion-heavy 6 Underground, no one does over-the-top action quite like Bay. But like his latest film, a large part of Bay's work is known for being pretty naff. And nowhere has there been a more Bay-esque Bay movie than that of Transformers: The Last Knight.
The most recent instalment in a series that just won't die, the fifth Transformers film has snagged the lowest critical rating of the series to date; and when a film that already involves giant, warring robot aliens also manages to involve King Arthur and Optimus Prime turning evil, it's not hard to imagine why.
Nominated for 10 Golden Raspberries and being critically panned for its overly-long runtime, poor writing, tonal inconsistencies, and pretty much everything else except for the CGI robots, it's almost amazing that this film grossed over $650 million from an initial budget of $217 million.
Thankfully Bay has stepped down from the franchise.
