10 Bad Movies With Great Trailers

8. Alien 3

Joker Suicide Squad
20th Century Fox

David Fincher's debut feature has long been disowned by the director, with his experiences dealing with heavy-handed studio interference souring him on working within the confines of the studio system. As you would expect from Fincher, Alien 3 is full of stylish and atmospheric visuals but is hampered greatly by a script that just can't seem to decide what it wants to be.

As if following up the work of Ridley Scott and James Cameron's phenomenal work in the franchise wasn't enough for a first-time director, the movie began shooting without a finished screenplay and the constant revisions and interventions by studio executives both drove the budget up and the director insane.

Still, as a new Alien movie the project was virtually a guaranteed success, and the dramatic and atmospheric trailers certainly showed no signs of behind-the-scenes discontent.

It may have earned almost $160m at the box office, but the reviews were not kind to the movie. Rightfully criticizing the tonal inconsistencies and lack of cohesion in the story, Alien 3 marked a massive step down in quality for the franchise. The 2003 Assembly Cut is far superior, but it came a decade too late for the troubled production.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
