10 Bad Signs That Spell Doom For Paul Feig's Ghostbusters

9. The Proton Packs Look Terrible

Did Melissa McCarthy cobble these together in a garage somewhere?

In the original Ghostbusters, Peter, Ray, and Egon used funding from their university positions to develop proton packs and a ghost containment system. When they were fired from said university, they went into business for themselves, using Ray's family home as collateral for a bank loan.

So there's no question that busting ghosts can and has been done on a budget - but even still, the proton packs should look good. The original team's packs were bulky, but looked, frankly, cool.

These, simply, do not.

There was quite an uproar over the release of proton pack images on Twitter (with many from Comic Con), despite director Paul Feig releasing an annotated copy explaining each and every component. That thing that looks like the heating element on your stove? That's a Hydrogen Ionization Chamber and Proton Injector. Because of course it is. Spare parts from Radio Shack can easily be welded into a proton pack, right?

While this makes imitations easier for the DIY/Cosplay crowd, they're just flimsy looking. That's the biggest issue. The bulk of the originals made you believe that they could really work. Here's to hoping they at least kept the powering up sound effect.
