While we don't know a lot about Supreme Leader Snoke's origins or history, the fact that he's able to chuck Rey around like she's a ragdoll makes it clear that he's an immensely powerful Force user - certainly more powerful than Kylo Ren and Rey.

He also claims to be able to read Ren's thoughts and see his every intent, an ability that should really make Snoke untouchable, safe from both an up-front attack, as well as betrayal by those closest to him. Or so you'd think.

Turns out that his mind-reading powers can't really sense much of the detail within his subject's mind, because Ren is able to not only think about killing him, but actually kill him, flicking a lightsaber through his boss' midriff and chopping him in half.

Ren didn't have to work hard for this at all - hell, he didn't even have to try and fully conceal his thoughts - and it's a bit convenient that Snoke can't tell what he's about to do, especially when you consider that he was able to link Rey's and Ren's minds earlier in the film, and even sensed Rey's intention to pursue young Ben Solo and try to turn him to the light side.
