10 Bafflingly High IMDb Movie Ratings You Won't Believe
9. Taken
IMDb Rating: 7.9 Luc Besson knows exactly who his audience is and exactly what they want. And with a particular set of skills he's acquired over a career that's never come close to matching Léon he's found a way to kill it at the box office. The sequels may have tried incredibly hard to make it seem otherwise, but the original Taken was a good bit of fun. It never stopped for too long to let the silliness of it all sink in and had villains that showed a glimmer of personality beneath the stereotypes. However, outside of the gimmick (and at the time it was definitely a gimmick) of casting Oskar Schindler as an action hero, it was still a pretty standard Euro-action flick, made memorable by a single line. Head to IMDb, however, and this piece of dumb fun sits alongside genuine works of cinematic art; Hot Fuzz is another action movie that holds a 7.9, despite Edgar Wright's spot-on cop parody being miles better. The film really didn't make waves when it was first released, meaning that this high praise likely stems from the memeing of the "I will find you" speech warping the film's actual significance and impact.
