10 Banned Horror Movies That Shocked The World

7. Faces Of Death

Whilst not quite up there with the visceral horror movies of contemporary cinema, Faces of Death had its run back in the day for managing to fool its audiences with some cleverly handled movie magic. Much in the same way as the far more well known Cannibal Holocaust, Faces of Death created an environment that appeared all too real - stitching together acting, faked footage, and some real clips of actual deaths into one messed up string of controversial content.

Cannibal Holocaust had the terrible stinger that its animal abuse was in fact real to justify its bans, but Faces of Death largely relied on faking it till it made it, apart from the odd gory moment snipped from newsreels. Still, it managed to get itself banned from a self-proclaimed 40+ countries (in reality it was more like 4 temporarily) for its cinematic ridiculousness that straddled truth and fiction, causing a scandalous reputation in the process.

It's pretty terribly dated now, but served as a milestone in experimental horror content upon its release in the 70s.
