10 Banned Horror Movies That Shocked The World
6. Antichrist
Lars Von Trier's Antichrist has got a title alone that would set off the censors back in the day, but considering it came out in the far more weatherbeaten years of 2009, it really had to do something extra to find itself on the block list.
Sending a grieving couple to a cabin in the woods - which is the first red flag that something horrible is going to happen in horror movie language - they try to overcome the loss of their son with peace and quiet. Instead, they get supernaturally turned on each other in increasingly more violent and sexual ways.
Antichrist was banned in at least three countries when it first came out, with France adding themselves to that list 6 years after release when they realised they 'made a mistake' in letting it through the censors, with increased pressure from a Catholic group swinging their decision.
In any case, it's a fair example of art house movies getting their freak on as much as old exploitation flicks - and classification boards taking no sh*t either way.
