10 Banned Video Nasties That Were Actually Pretty Tame

2. The Beast In Heat (1977)

Okay, if you are going to go for a Nazisploitation flick, then go all out - pick Ilsa She Wolf of the SS or The Gestapo's Last Orgy. Do not pick this piece of cinematic garbage because it is so tame in comparison, it will disappoint you sorely. Unaccountably popular in the heyday of video nasty trading, what can you say about a film whose opening titles read 'Horrifing (sic) Experiments of SS Last Days'? Or uses painted guinea pigs as rats? Or whose experiments are even sub-par to fellow infamous but ridiculous Nasty Nazi pic - SS Experiment Camp. This is even before we get to the protracted resistance fighters subplot which looks like it has been inserted from another film altogether. And I can assure you the viewer, you will derive not even a single drop of excitement from it. Far too stupid to be offensive (even though it contains such action as a baby being shot), the film's big shocker - the sex crazed, murdering beast - comes across as a gurning, mugging up cartoon of himself and is a major let down. In the world of Nazisploitation, The Beast in Heat just comes off as a lame pastiche of the genre. Don't waste your time.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
