10 Baseball Movies That Knocked It Out Of The Park
6. The Sandlot
It's tempting to put The Sandlot higher on this list. Unlike most baseball films, The Sandlot doesn't involve professional or semi-professional players. Instead, it focuses on a group of neighborhood kids who play each other on a ratty sandlot ball field. The film is a brilliant and honest look at baseball in childhood. The kids in the film are brilliantly average, non-actorly types with whom audiences can relate. While the characters are stock to some degree - there's the nerd, the fat kid, the star player - the actors bring them to vibrant life and give them some amount of depth.
Anyone who ever spent any amount of time in their childhood kicking dirt around with friends on a baseball field will recognize the dynamics in this film.
