10 'Based On True Story' Films That Are Complete Fiction

These movies took the truth and ran with it ... in the opposite direction.

Telling stories is what Hollywood does for a living, selling fantasies that could never actually happen to any of us in 10 lifetimes. The key to a successful transaction, when trying to sell such manufactured dreams to the masses, is to properly trigger suspension of disbelief, which can be accomplished much more easily when simply telling the audience that, low and behold, the story they€™re about to be told is actually true. Sure, liberties are often taken when depicting true events which spawned the expression €œFictionalized Account€. Sometimes even documentaries fiddle with what they claim to be the truth, not that Michael Moore has anything to do with such a growing tendency. But sometimes the truth behind the story is anything but, where filmmakers took the concept of a true story and ran with it in the absolutely opposite direction while allowing the audience to think otherwise. Hard to believe? Take a look.
