10 Basic Mistakes That Ruin Movies

5. Q's Unbelievable Stupidity - Skyfall

Dodgeball Vince Vaughn
MGM

Skyfall is an excellent movie for the most part, but starts to fall apart if you commit much thought to how overwhelmingly convoluted its villain's plan is.

Antagonist Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem) is captured at the end of the second act, but this is ultimately just part of his hilariously contrived plan to try and assassinate M (Judi Dench) at a parliamentary inquiry.

Silva's plan hinges on his confiscated laptop being directly connected to MI6's servers by Q (Ben Whishaw), allowing him to escape.

And while you might expect such lackluster technological security from your great uncle, an expert hacker employed by the government who definitely knows better? Not quite.

The idea that Q connected Silva's laptop to MI6 without any sort of airgapping or other security in place is totally laughable, and basically torpedoes the entirety of the third act, given that Silva's whole ploy is reliant upon Q's unbelievable stupidity.
