10 Beautiful Horror Films Of The 2010s
9. It Follows (2015)
This movie has such a simple, yet genius take on the monster of horror films, providing a completely unique experience for those lovers of classic horror. Director David Robert Mitchell presents the story of Jay, an adolescent girl who, after a strange sexual encounter, receives the worst possible sexually transmitted disease possible.
In this case, the disease is a relentless monster, presenting itself as anybody it likes. It could be your own mother, your arch-enemy, or somebody entirely unknown, but what is certain, is that it is walking towards you, slowly and surely.
There is apparent inspiration from the earlier Day of the Dead films, and the slow-moving zombies that at one point actually scared audiences.
The electronic score, which rises and falls as the tension does add a level of nostalgia you might not expect from this film. This score is enough to merit its entrance on the list alone, but the use of wide-shots and panning long takes build tension and suspense, with a slow-moving monster approaching unknown, on and off screen.
The suburban, beach, and swimming pool settings bring a sense of familiarity to the films simple but effective style.
