10 Beautiful Horror Films Of The 2010s

8. Mother! (2017)

Neon Demon
Paramount

Darren Aronofsky is one of the great directors you will find on this list, with this film being possibly his most daring project. Mother! is one directors artistic vision that, when it hit the cinemas, caused an almighty response, not all of which was gleaming.

For one thing, its a hard film to categorise, with some understanding it as a surrealist satire on religion and the environment. Others saw it as a downright psychological horror with an emotional take on love and sacrifice, and others found it to be a black comedy.

Nevertheless, the core of the film is a huge metaphor, meaning there is incredibly high amounts of metaphorical, religious, and spiritual imagery carefully placed to reinforce plot points. Its undoubtedly a gorgeous film, the home under construction, or rather the representation of the Garden of Eden surrounding by a blooming field of long grass is splendid.

Yes, the film is unwieldy, it's attempting to be so large and so triumphant, that it ends up crumbling under its own ambition. But, the beautiful shots and tribal imagery serves the purpose of upholding the story, regardless of whether it is pretentious or not.

I watch, then I write. It could gory horror movies or confusing yet loveable cult hits like Donnie Darko. So have a look at what I write, or don't. It's fine, I don't mind.
