10 Behind The Scenes Documentaries Even Better Than The Movies
7. Full Tilt Boogie (1997)
From Dusk till Dawn is one of Quinton Tarantino's more bizarre scripts. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, this getaway-movie turned horror flick, is a prime example of what happens when you let two young film nerds run wild.
The documentary is as equally enjoyable. With afterhours hotel parties, 'Best Set Butt' contests and Tarantino singing karaoke, this behind-the-scenes doc will make you wish you didn't dropout of your film degree.
The film is less about the creative process of the writer and director, and instead focuses on the day to day life of the cast and crew. Interviews with everyone from George Clooney's personal assistant, to the catering guy, makes the experience seem like a complete laugh. The documentary maker gets the crew to open up about everything, from on set romances, to what makes the greatest mid-shoot snack.
Over the course of the film you start to pick up on the unique working relationships of those involved. Tarantino and Clooney became a sort of comedy double-act together, and Robert Rodriguez was constantly carrying and playing a guitar while trying to direct.
There's some slightly more serious matters alluded to, such as the threat of a looming Union strike, and the crew becoming disheartened by the 18-hour work days, but that all takes a back seat. There's even a moment when Juliette Lewis leads a very drunk Tarantino and George Clooney in rendition of What's Up by 4 Non Blondes .
