Steven Spielberg's E.T. may be a virtually perfect film, but over the years it's come to light just how many scenes Spielberg deleted from the final cut of the movie.

Many of these scenes consequently made it onto the 20th Anniversary DVD, but there's one scene that, for many years, was nothing more than the apocryphal whisperings of fans.

The scene featured E.T. making his way into the bedroom of Elliott's (Henry Thomas) mother Mary (Dee Wallace) and creeping on her while she's sleeping, topless no less.

But in 2012, a book commemorating the film's 30th Anniversary revealed two production stills confirming the rumours to be true - E.T. waddles into the room in a bathrobe and reportedly leaves a handful of Reese's Pieces on her pillow as a gift.

The legend goes that the scene was cut for its obvious tonal issues, and while there's no formal confirmation of that anywhere, it's incredibly easy to believe. Nevertheless, fascinating stuff.
