10 Beloved Movie Legacies At Risk Of Being Ruined Forever

Seriously, what are we doing here?

There's no way of knowing what to expect from this creative (or uncreative, I should say) decision until Avengers: Doomsday hits the big screen late next year. So, until then, it will only continue to be criticised and subsequently scrutinised to find logical reasoning as to why this is the path Kevin Feige and Marvel have pursued.

Robert Downey Jr.'s legacy as Tony Stark/Iron Man is as legendary and loved as they come, and very few can match the actor's commitment to the character and cinematic journey during the 11-year tenure that he has donned the signature red and gold armour, with his debut coming in 2008's Iron Man to his demise in 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

But, as you've come to expect, dead is just a word when it comes to the MCU and its most marketable characters. So, the Academy Award winner reprising the role through the far-reaching and never-ending Marvel multiverse was never truly ruled out.

However, having him instead return as the face of perhaps Marvel's most famous comic-book foe, Doctor Doom, wasn't exactly in many people's minds or within the realms of possibility. If Feige was looking for shock factor when the announcement was made last summer, he sure as hell got it as the Hall H crowd of San Diego's Comic Con went wild. But as the dust began to settle, the casting did nothing but further exhibit the studio's desperation, as well as undermine the very legacy that made them what they are today.
