A silly name yes, but The Babadook packed in genuine scares as well as something not seen in horror movies for quite some time: psychological substance and subtext.
As emotionally hard-hitting as it is disturbing, this is one of those horror films that will stay with you long after it has finished and not simply evaporate when the lights come on. That is its chief virtue.
