RT Rating: 20% What a drag: having wowed audiences with the first Paranormal Activity (which doesnt deserve to be tarnished by the poor quality of the sequels) Oren Peli embarked on his next project, Area 51. After almost 6 years in development and a raft of reshoots in 2013 and at least a year of post-production tinkering, the found footage alien horror was quietly released this year. And nobody seems to have noticed. Thats probably a good thing for Peli, because the final product is hardly an endorsement of his workload. Its painfully boring for the first 50 minutes, and despite a reasonable premise, its lame, predictable and thoroughly unlikeable. And God knows where the post-production work went, because it looks like a particularly unrefined student film.
