Social media horrors seem to be the trend du jour of the genre at the moment. Last year we had the goodish Unfriended which introduced a fresh spin on found footage that fully incorporated its technological focus, but there’s also plenty of downright awful social media horrors of late too like stupid 2012 slasher Smiley. The latest, Friend Request, falls into the latter lot.

In it, popular college student Laura’s online and offline life are upturned when she befriends lonely emo misfit Marina on Facebook who then goes on to commit suicide via social media and kill off Laura’s friends from beyond the grave. Or something like that. To be honest, the plot is so nonsensical that swiping through photos of what your friends are having dinner on the real-life Facebook will seem like time better spent than watching Friend Request.

Its only redeeming factor is it’s so daft that it features some quotably cheesy dialogue that might elicit a giggle or two, ‘Unfriend that dead bitch’ being a highlight.
