10 Best "Everything You Know Is A Lie" Moments In Horror Movies

8. "Esther" Is An Adult - Orphan

Orphan is one of the most delightfully unhinged horror B-movies of the last 15 years, and one which many have revisited recently due to the release of last year's belated prequel, Orphan: First Kill.

The plot centers around Kate and John Coleman (Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard), a couple who adopt a 9-year-old Russian girl, Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), who soon begins exhibiting troubling behaviour.

Though the movie initially leads audiences to believe they're dealing with some sort of Omen-esque demonic child scenario, the third act drops an absolute stunner of a plot twist when Kate learns that Esther isn't even a child at all.

Rather, Esther is a 33-year-old woman with a hormone disorder which has stunted her growth and caused her to resemble a child, allowing her to easily pass as one with the help of some makeup.

Oh, and she's a serial killer who's been responsible for at least seven deaths, including her prior foster family, so there's that.

It's an especially rough revelation for Kate, who having recently suffered through a stillbirth while also battling alcoholism, doesn't exactly need this sort of drama in her life.

But to her credit, she steps up to the plate and does what anyone in the situation would - she gives "Esther" a stiff kick to the face that breaks her neck and sends her to a watery grave.

And to the credit of the team behind the recent prequel, they managed to come up with a similarly impressive rug-pull of a reveal that quite cleverly toyed with audience expectations.
