10 Best "Everything You Know Is A Lie" Moments In Horror Movies

7. Gabriel Hijacks Madison's Body - Malignant

Bodies Bodies Bodies
Warner Bros.

Malignant is as cuckoo bananas as mainstream horror has gotten in recent years, typified by a mind-melting third act reveal that has left audiences reeling in spades.

For most of the film, the serial killer is believed to be protagonist Madison's (Annabelle Wallis) imaginary childhood friend Gabriel, who has seemingly found a way to come to life.

But in the final reel, Madison's sister Sydney (Maddie Hasson) visits a hospital where Madison received treatment as a child, learning that Gabriel was her parasitic twin brother attached to her back.

Doctors surgically removed Gabriel's body but were unable to remove his brain, which was instead sealed inside Madison's skull.

When Madison's abusive husband recently shoved her head against a wall, it caused a fracture which roused the dormant Gabriel, letting him take control of her body to carry out the murders.

This also explains why "Gabriel" moves backwards and has upside-down handprints: because Gabriel faces outward from the back of Madison's head, he controls her backwards.

Yeah, that's... a lot for anyone to deal with, let alone the audience. And that's without even considering the absolute bats**t, brutal insanity that follows this big reveal.
