10 Best "Everything You Know Is A Lie" Moments In Horror Movies
5. Grace & Her Children Are Dead - The Others
The Others boasts one of the all-time great examples of narrative goalpost-moving without it feeling like a cheat, as protagonist Grace Stewart (Nicole Kidman) learns she's been very, very wrong about the apparently malevolent forces residing in her home.
Grace believes that the house in which she and her two young children live is being haunted by a group of ghosts who claim the house to be theirs.
Things get increasingly weirder from there, such as Grace's husband Charles (Christopher Eccleston) returning from war despite Grace believing him to have been killed in action.
But at the end, Grace intrudes upon a séance being held by the "others" which reveals that, in her despair, she previously smothered her children to death before killing herself.
Grace realises that she, her children, and the house's servants are all dead, while the "others" are actually the living residents of the house.
Because learning that you're a ghost isn't bad enough, Grace has to deal with the additional horrifying revelation that she murdered her own beloved children. Yikes.
