Before it was a hit TV show, Snowpiercer was a hit film directed by future Best Picture winner Bong Joon-Ho.

The premise is the same - a group of humans survive an apocalyptic ice age by riding around in a giant train. Only the movie has John Hurt in it! And Chris Evans!

Imagine being on a train with Captain America and The Elephant Man. What a time to be alive.

Unfortunately, not many people are alive come the end of the film, because the titular choo-choo ends up derailing after a revolution breaks out onboard. Two young survivors, Yona and Timmy, end the film by staring off into the lifeless frozen wasteland.

Except, it's not as lifeless as they were led to believe.

The jaw-dropping ending shot of Snowpiercer reveals a polar bear staring back at the two humans. After all this time believing that all other life had been wiped out, it turns out none of it was true.

It's a fantastic visual metaphor for the tenacity of nature and the hope for the future represented by the younger generation.

Let's focus on that, instead of the fact these two were more than likely eaten very shortly after this shot ended.
