10 Best "Everything You Know Is A Lie" Moments In Sci-Fi Movies

5. Everything’s Out Of Order - Arrival

Arrival is what would happen if you sent Independence Day into the mirror dimension.

Whilst that movie is about an alien invasion full of huge guns, explosions, and machismo, this one is a much slower film about a linguist attempting to understand why the aliens have arrived on Earth.

Amy Adams plays Louise, the linguist who also serves as a narrator to the story. We get what look like flashbacks during the early portion of the movie regarding Louise's daughter, who dies young of an incurable disease.

As it turns out, these aren't memories, but premonitions.

See, the aliens experience time in a non-linear way and their language reflects that. When Louise learns the language, she too is able to view time out of sequence.

She eventually uses this ability to prevent an all-out war between humans and aliens and chooses to go through with having a child, even though she knows what will happen to her.

Wow, that was so much science that there's barely any room for a silly joke at the end.

Or maybe we actually wrote one in the future!

Let's not do this...
