Some 80s horror films are masterfully crafted creepy chillers, some incorporate fun comedy with it’s scares and some - well, some are Chopping Mall.

The 1986 sci-fi comedy horror is centred on a group of young teenagers, who spend the night in a shopping mall. Suddenly, the mall’s newly installed high-tech robots become self-aware, sending the building into lock-down, and going on a rampage, killing off the teenagers one by one.

So, from the premise alone, the film is basically a Terminator rip-off (coming out two years after the iconic 80s thriller), mixed with the mall setting of Dawn of the Dead and a classic 80s teen slasher, like Friday the 13th. As you may have predicted from the premise alone, it’s equal parts terrible, delightful and absolutely brilliant.

But actually, some questionable elements aside, the film is shockingly quite a well-paced and well-plotted comedy horror, with some fun sequences of thrilling tension.

And realstically, where else are you going to find a movie with a line like this - “It's not you, Ferdy. I'm just not used to being chased around a mall in the middle of the night by killer robots.”
