10 Best 90s Teen Horror Movies You Need To Watch

9. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later

Urban Legend
Buena Vista Pictures

Before he came home again in 2018, Michael Myers paid a visit to sister Laurie Strode and her son (Josh Hartnett!) in this 90s slasher sequel. Ignoring the silly nonsense of the previous Halloween movies (the cult of What, now?), H20 picks up where the original movie left off... only twenty years later.

Laurie Strode is hiding out as the headmistress of a prestigious school, living on-campus with her teenage son. Michael was never going to stay away forever though, and The Shape decides to pay a visit to his sister and nephew, offing a few of their friends and loved ones along the way (including a young Joseph Gordon Levitt!)

This is Halloween, done Scream style, and it works well for the franchise. Director Steve Miner spends a little too much time on the setup, and there's surprisingly little gore, but H20 is a smart, suspenseful slasher film, with a great lead in an all-growed-up Laurie Strode.

It's almost a shame that the 2018 reboot decided to discard it from continuity. Probably for the best though, if that means getting rid of Halloween: Resurrection too.
