3. War For The Planet Of The Apes - The Finale

No spoilers here as the movie's only just come out, but anyone who's already has a chance to see the searing finale to Matt Reeves' thrilling Apes trilogy knows how beautifully brutal and impactful its final showdown between man and ape is.

There's something extremely galling about a Hollywood blockbuster actively asking the audience to root against humanity, for their own extinction even, and of course, it's acted and directed as brilliantly as you'd expect from this cast and crew.

War for the Planet of the Apes may have been relatively light on action for a movie with the word "war" in the title, but it made damn good on the maxim of quality over quantity in this regard.
