Beginning as K in Denis Villeneuve's visually-stunning Blade Runner 2049, Gosling crafted a nuanced and compelling depiction of an android questioning their existence and humanity - or if they had any to begin with - in a performance that was equal parts cool, charismatic, and genuinely heartfelt in all the right places.

Last year Gosling showed audiences once more he was capable of executing an effectively emotive performance in Damien Gazelle's Oscar-winning biopic as astronaut Neil Armstrong, turning the historic feat into a deeply personal story about family.
