10 Best Animated Sci-Fi Movies

1. The Iron Giant

Ghost in the Shell
Warner Bros.

The Iron Giant is one of those movies that you rarely hear anyone with a word to speak against it.

It gives off the 1950s Americana vibes that the whole world associates with traditional sci-fi, and it has the wholesome feel of a family movie.

Unfortunately, its 1999 release was not as successful as it deserved, and saw it underperform significantly at the box office. The Iron Giant has since gained not simply a cult following, but a huge fanbase of people of all ages.

It's a beautifully made movie with Disney-esque visuals, although it treads some slightly darker ground than the House of Mouse usually dares.

The Iron Giant is the sort of movie that parents put on for their children with the express intent of watching it themselves. And given that it was released over 20 years ago, many of those who enjoyed it in their own childhood now have children of their own to share it with, ensuring that it will be given the lasting legacy that it deserves.
