10 Best Apocalypse Movies
4. Mad Max Fury Road (2015)
Mad Max: Fury Road is a kinetic thrill ride of a film from start to finish. George Miller's action epic trims any fat possible, resulting in an exhilarating experience from Tom Hardy's first failed escape from hideously disfigured villain Immortan Joe's henchman right the way to the climactic final conflict.
Not only is this a relentlessly paced film, it's also technically baffling. I'm sure plenty of film fans will have spent hours trying to work out how some of the stunts were pulled off. Under the hood of Fury Road is a whole host of inventive shooting and so much effort that it would take far too long to go through them. It's almost difficult to say why it works, but this madcap experience just DOES.
Mad Max: Fury Road regularly shows up on lists talking about the best movies of the 21st century, and its clear why. A stunning visual palette, stellar performances from both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, a thundering soundtrack and, crucially, a guitar flamethrower make for some of the best, pulse-pounding cinema in years. If you're lacking adrenaline, whack Fury Road on and you'll have plenty soon enough.
