10 Best Benicio Del Toro Movie Performances

5. Jack Jordan - 21 Grams (2003)

Snatch Benicio Del Toro

From here, there really is no fault with any of del Toro's performances. All are fully-formed, beautifully-acted characters gave the actor the opportunity to embrace every skill in his arsenal.

21 Grams is a dark, harsh and deeply unsettling exploration of grief and recovery. Del Toro portrays Jack Jordan, a recovering drug addict and alcoholic who has turned to religion to help him battle his demons, but everything comes crashing down when he accidentally kills a woman in a hit-and-run accident.

Following the tragedy, he relapses and starts using drugs again, and later gets sent to prison for the crash. Upon his release, he finds himself lost in a deep depression, unable to re-integrate with his family and sure that God will punish him for his sins.

Del Toro is the strongest actor in the film, even with Naomi Watts and Sean Penn rounding out the ensemble. He's tragic and broken, but in his grief and his fractured faith he is also completely endearing, the kind of troubled soul you can't help but root for despite all his indiscretions.
