10 Best Blumhouse Horror Movies You've Probably Never Seen

9. The Gallows

The Town That Dreaded Sundown
New Line Cinema

The Gallows is going to be the most mainstream entry on this list, and while it did manage to make $43 million in the box office people absolutely hated it.

The Gallows is a found footage horror movie, and that alone is enough to make the eyes roll and the brains turn off. It came out in 2015 when the found footage genre had more than run its course. Paranormal Activity movies were coming out what seemed like every other week and the genre fatigue had hit an all time high. However, it's time to give the movie a second chance.

The film starts out with an old video of a high-school play, where Charlie Grimille is accidentally hanged and killed on stage in front of the entire audience. Twenty years pass and the students decide they want to put on that play again where Charlie was killed, as it had not been done since then. Because teenagers are dicks, a group of students decide to vandalize the set but instead end up locked and stranded inside the school.

Horror doesn't need to reinvent the wheel to be good. If it scares you, if it makes you jump, if it gives you a memorable experience then it has done what it needs to do. That is exactly what this film will do if you give it the chance. It's not going to win a stor telling award, but it will give you a good horror experience. Turn all the lights off, grab some popcorn and be prepared to jump.
