10 Best British Gangster Movies Ever

6. The Italian Job (1969)

Almost half a century since its release, The Italian Job is still arguably the quintessential British crime caper and Michael Caine's most iconic role.

Undeniably daft but charmingly cheeky, boasting a terrific ensemble cast and featuring an all-timer car chase, it's one of the coolest British films ever made from top to bottom.

The Quincy Jones score, the Mini Coopers, the riotous one-liners ("You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!") and the incredible cliffhanger ending - which features an actual bus hanging on the edge of an actual cliff, no less - all add up to a classic slice of 1960s Britain that's sure to endure for at least another fifty years.
