Martin McDonagh's impeccably written black comedy crime farce - again, a directorial debut - is one of the most unique gangster movies of the last decade, if not ever.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are magnetic screen partners as two hitmen exiled to Bruges, Belgium after a botched job, in a film that perfectly exploits its unconventional setting for all it's worth.

Loaded with killer one-liners, potent existential musings and some extremely satisfying twists, not to mention an unforgettable supporting performance from Ralph Fiennes ("You're an inanimate f***ing object!"), it's a rare gangster film as hilarious as it is thoughtful.

Deservedly, In Bruges was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and Farrell won a Golden Globe for his superb, possibly career-best performance.
