10 Best British Horror Movies Since 2000

1. The Descent (2005)

Shaun Of The Dead
Lionsgate

Imagine going caving, for fun, in the middle of buttf*ck nowhere, in a cave system no one has entered before, with a load of creepy goblins running around trying to eat you. That’s the premise of this film. As ridiculous as that sounds - The Descent is one of the best, if not the best, modern horror classics to come out of the UK in the past 20 years, and it's the goblins that cinch it.

Following a group of women as they band together for a trip to the underworld, in other words embark upon a caving holiday, the fun soons turns to terror as they become trapped inside and subterranean monsters start picking them off one by one. Never quite sure where they’re heading and surrounded by pasty mutations, survival becomes the only option whilst they riddle their way out of the dark.

Claustrophobic as an ASDA bag strapped to your head, the film is so tense you come out of it feeling like you’ve battled your way through a cave system without leaving your own sweaty sofa seat. Never again will going outdoors sound like a good idea.
