3. Phasma
J. J. Abrams, so damn dedicated to recreating the experience of the original trilogy - because god forbid this walking talking slice of half-baked New York pizza have an actual original idea in his head for once in his life - came up with his own version of Boba Fett for the new trilogy: Captain Phasma. While not a one to one translation (for one thing, she actually accomplishes stuff and dies like a badass), it was clear who she was supposed to mirror.
Fortunately, as with most things in life, this was made a million times better by Delilah S. Dawson when she wrote Star Wars: Phasma.
This story technically centres around a resistance spy who gets captured by a high ranking (but nowhere near as high as Phasma) stormtrooper simply named The Cardinal. See, this spy - Vi Moradi - has information on Phasma's past, which the First Order captain has kept hidden with a fanatical zeal. The Cardinal knows there must be something in her past that will ruin Phasma's favor with supreme leader Snoke, else she wouldn't hide it so desperately, so he plans to torture Vi until she gives him what he wants.
Not only is this a great look into the sequel trilogy's most enigmatic character, but it's also a fantastic cat and mouse game between our heroine and our villain. Most of this book takes place in a single room with only two people in it talking, but you'll be on the edge of your seat throughout the whole thing.
