10 Best Character Arcs In The MCU (So Far)
2. Thor
The God of Thunder, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was once arrogant, brash and uncultured. In his first solo outing, the god found himself banished from Asgard, unable to wield his hammer, and getting in touch with his human side. Falling in love with Jane Foster, he had to confront his brother for his evil ways and found himself as a part of the Avengers, willing to fight for a planet he once never seemed to care for.
Aside from becoming one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, he also went through more than nearly any hero in the entire franchise, losing his mother, father, brother, friends and breaking up with Jane. He also lost an eye, saw his home destroyed, had his hammer shattered and had to deal with his psychotic, power-mad sister.
After failing to kill Thanos, Thor slipped into a depression - he lounged around, drank constantly, and refused (at first) to rejoin the Avengers when offered a chance to put the Snap right. All of this culminates in him realising he doesn't know who he really is and that he's not as great as he once believed, leaving Valkyrie in charge of New Asgard as he heads out to find himself.
It's been a great journey from Thor, and with another film not too far away (and Hemsworth showing no signs of getting bored with the role), we can safely assume he'll continue his story for years to come.
