10 Best Characters In Guy Ritchie Movies
7. Raymond Smith - The Gentlemen
Right hand man to Mickey Pearson, Raymond Smith is perhaps the one person that Mickey trusts the most, except from Rosalind, and depends on him to carry out the dirty work that he no longer wishes to get involved with. Raymond is fiercely loyal, but still brave enough to challenge Mickey if he isn't happy with whatever his boss is asking to do of him.
Although he possess a very calm demeanour most of the time, Raymond can also be very aggressive when pushed too far, as seen during the chaos that arises after he tries to recover Laura Pressfield (Eliot Sumner) from a drug den. Despite wanting to remain sensible and reasonable, he often needs to rely on intimidating his opponents in order to get what he wants. As well as his devotion to Mickey's business, his ruthless efficiency also makes him a prized ally.
Easily the best part of Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), Charlie Hunnam excels in yet another Guy Ritchie film here. Hunnam is no stranger to the crime genre, having starred in Sons of Anarchy before this film, and easily masters the humour/seriousness balance that is prominent throughout all of Ritchie's films.
The aforementioned scene at the drug den is likely the best example of this, as it starts as a tense, suspenseful exchange between Raymond and the drug dealers, and slowly becomes more humorous and tongue-in-cheek as it goes on. His chemistry with the other stars of The Gentlemen is amazing too, with the way he bounces off of Hugh Grant in particular being the source of a lot of the films laughs. Charlie Hunnam's performance in this movie is just one of the many reasons that it's so damn entertaining.
