10 Best Comedy Actors Of The Last 25 Years

7. Steve Carell

Steve Carell looks set for an Oscar nomination in the next few months, for his role in the upcoming drama Foxcatcher, as his terrific career continues to blossom. Although he may be about to embark on more of a serious run of roles, it is still comedy that is at his core, and he's been a hugely successful star for a decade now. Carell first came to peoples attention in the hugely successful Bruce Almighty in 2003, when he played Evan Baxter, a smarmy, arrogant reporter who is Jim Carrey's character Bruce Nolan's biggest rival. If that movie put him on the map, it was his memorable performance as the childlike weatherman Brick Tamland in Anchorman that really made Carell a star. He had so many instantly quotable lines, some of which - "I love lamp", "I pooped a Cornish game hen", "LOUD NOISES" - are still mentioned to this day. He played the lead part in The 40-Year-Old Virgin to perfection, and although his role as Michael Scott in the US remake of The Office saw his career stray away from Hollywood hits for quite a few years, he has still churned out some terrific performances on the big screen. He is excellent in Crazy, Stupid, Love, Little Miss Sunshine and Anchorman 2 - he is, after all, at his best playing either eccentric or nerdy characters. His comic timing, distinctive laugh and likeability are all very infectious.
