Back before it was ever made into a movie, when it was just a humble novel, King made growing up and the teenage experience central to his story. Luckily when the book was adapted they took out one horribly misjudged scene that was meant to represent coming of age literally, and without it the story is still perfectly intact!

For those unfamiliar with the famous story of ‘It’ and its central villain Pennywise, it essentially follows a group of misfit teenagers who call themselves the ‘Losers Club’. After one of the teen’s younger brothers goes missing (though we know he has been got by big bad Pennywise), they embark on a journey to find him that quickly turns into something more.

More than just another bloody, jumpscare-filled horror the filmmakers wanted It to be an homage to the teen experience. It draws on the different ways in which people experience childhood, families, bullying and growing up - at times making Pennywise seem almost a metaphor for what else is going on.

Both funny and horrifying at times, the film is one of the highest grossing R-rated flicks of all time and you can really tell why.
