10 Best Disappointing Movies Ever

Ridley Scott will have learned a great deal from the way Prometheus went down.

The fans wanted an Alien prequel, and when he dared make something daring and original, all hell broke lose and the box office takings failed to stack up.

We're not for one second claiming Prometheus is a perfect movie, but it has some significant positives that are often overlooked.

By introducing us to the Engineers, an extraterrestrial master race who created humanity in the Alien universe, Scott sparked intelligent discussion around a weighty question - where did we come from?

For all of the film's faults, it did encourage cinemagoers to take a moment to ponder this matter, and that alone makes it better and more ambitious than most blockbusters.

Plus Michael Fassbender is just fantastic as the mechanically menacing David.

Much of Prometheus' problems lie in the way the film was marketed in the run-up to release. We can't blame fans for wanting their Alien prequels to have actual aliens (the kind that burst from their victim's chest) in them.

And while it asked all of the right questions, it failed to provide any answers.
