10 Best Disappointing Movies Ever
3. The Godfather Part III
The Godfather Part III is easily the lowest point in the gangster trilogy, but it was assassinated by expectation alone.
The game-changing original arrived in 1972 and it's revered sequel followed in '74, but the third chapter didn't land until well over a decade later in 1990, and the hype spiraled out of control during the gap years.
In truth, the third Godfather is far from terrible. There are terrible things about it, sure - like Sofia Coppola's performance - but there are also positives to pick out.
Al Pacino brings as much gravitas as ever to the role of Michael Corleone and the film's theme of corruption within the Vatican is perhaps even more relevant today.
Another criticism of The Godfather Part III is its inability to stand alone, and while that remains true, it works well enough as a footnote to the series if you can resist comparisons to its superior predecessors.
