10 Best Disney Live-Action Movie Remakes Ranked Worst To Best

5. Alice In Wonderland

Anne Hathaway Alice Through The Looking Glass
Disney

The first in Disney's new era or remakes was Alice In Wonderland. Which served as more of an adaptation than a straight retelling, as Alice is somewhere in her early twenties during the course of the film.

It works on many levels due to Tim Burton's own sense of weird, which made him the ideal candidate to adapt the film, and Johnny Depp's own brand of character acting to show us The Mad Hatter.

Elsewhere, the cast was well rounded and full of good performances and Mia Wasikowska proved a solid lead in her role as the titular Alice. Anne Hathaway too found fun in her role as The White Queen, which juxtaposed with Helena Bonham Carter's Red Queen nicely.

The story can be a little flat at times and the ease at which a four-year-old could guess the plot is somewhat detrimental to the overall film, it relies a bit too much on cliché and platitude to really make an audience sit anywhere close to the edge of their seat, but it does the job. More functional than inspired.

It was very successful upon release and made over a billion dollars, spawning a terrible sequel, and more importantly kicking off the age of Disney remakes.
