10 Best Disney Live-Action Movie Remakes Ranked Worst To Best
4. Maleficent
When a film is named for a specific character that is known the world over for being the ultimate evil to a princess, you'd better deliver something good to make people take her into their hearts. You know what, that is exactly what Angelina Jolie did.
She took Maleficent and moulded her into a wronged fairy, who was so consumed with rage that she became twisted and cruel. The story of the film is a total upending of the original tale, there is still a Princess Aurora and a kind of Prince Charming, but this is the tale of the wicked Fairy and how she brings herself back from darkness.
Jolie is brilliant as Maleficent, as is the supporting cast around her. Elle Fanning is our perfect princess and Sharlto Copely our twisted and evil King Stefan, everybody does their job following the lead actor's example and it comes in very well.
The ending twist is a really well thought out and sweet moment, concurrent with that of the modern age, which also serves to round out Maleficent's journey.
Yes, the ending battle is fairly out of place and the lack of any dragon references is disappointing, but Maleficent has heart and that is hard to find in many modern films.
It was a success at the box-office and a sequel was made, though five years was not long enough to produce a sequel worthy of the first.
